Broken Sunsets
This project was inspired by a retreat to Fowlers Gap, in far west NSW. Obsessed with twilights of sunset experience in Australia's uninterrupted outback, I wanted to express the tension of between this universal experience and wanting to digitally share it via social media.
I used with the tension between pocket cameras and instant film's slow ritual to narrate this. Capturing twilight digitally, then reproducing onto Polaroid to deliberately contradict and mirror memory itself. Breaking down these images further and further, I invited textures that speak to memory's unreliable nature, and explored the gap between immediate experience and reproduction all while challenging our relationship with predictable cliched moments of sunset we all experience.
